In our opinion, there are two big details to consider when sorting through your options – an agent’s experience and their location.

Experience Matters 

When it comes to picking a reliable real estate agent, experience is a big deal. Ideally, you’ll work with an agent who has a lot of professional experience under their belt. 

Real estate is always shifting and evolving. Markets can change overnight or slowly over time. With that in mind, the more years of experience your agent has, the more types of markets and conditions they’ll be familiar with. That knowledge will be super important in helping you get the best result possible.

Location, Location, Location

Along with industry experience, you’ll want to look for a real estate agent who is local to your market. As a buyer, that means someone who is local to your preferred communities and neighbourhoods. If you’re looking to sell, it’s best to choose an agent who works in your current area. 

Real estate is more local than you may realize. Markets and trends can shift at a community level or even right down a specific street or development. So with that in mind, the best agent for you will be someone who works and specializes in your area – bonus points if they live there too! 

Whether you’re looking to buy or sell, a local agent’s in-depth understanding of the homes, communities, and micro-markets in your area will be super important in helping you get the results you’re hoping for! 

Where to Start

A quick internet search can be a great way to find information – it may even be how you found this blog post! As you surf the web and explore your options, don’t forget to pay close attention to location and experience. 

Along with researching your options online, getting a personal recommendation can also be a helpful way to find a great agent. If you have a friend or family member who has bought or sold a home recently, ask them about their real estate agent. Discuss what they liked about their agent and if relevant, any areas where they felt their agent didn’t quite live up to expectations. 

On that note, if you’re not able to find any personal referrals that’s okay too. Most agents will have testimonials from past clients on their website, or search engine reviews that you can explore to get an idea of what it’s like to work with them.
